Full HD or Ultra HD?

Every TechniSat receiver supports Full HD – and some even support Ultra HD. But what’s the actual difference?

In brief: UHD (often referred to as 4K) stands for “Ultra High Definition” and delivers a resolution of 8.3 million pixels – four times higher than HD. However, it’s worth noting that currently, UHD content is still limited. The widely used HD standard already ensures a high-resolution viewing experience. But if UHD content becomes more common in the near future, TechniSat UHD receivers have you fully prepared.

Good to know: UHD receivers upscale SD and HD content to a higher resolution, which looks noticeably better on UHD TVs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Satellite Reception

DVB-S stands for Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite. It’s a standard for transmitting digital content (TV programmes) via satellite. The data is compressed using a specific method and sent via satellite. These standards are about preserving as much quality as possible during transmission.
DVB-S2 is the enhanced version of DVB-S. It offers a significantly higher data rate, resulting in noticeably better picture and sound quality. To receive this, you need a DVB-S2 compatible receiver – all current TechniSat models support DVB-S2.

You connect your satellite receiver to your TV via HDMI. HDMI offers much better image quality than the older SCART connection. SCART does not support HD content due to its limited resolution. If you have an older TV with only a SCART input: some of our satellite receivers still include a SCART port, or we offer optional SCART adapters for many models. This means you can still connect a modern satellite receiver to an older TV. To check the available video and audio connections, refer to the "Connections" section in the technical specifications of each receiver on our website.
